We have a variety of different treatments are available depending on the injury/condition and the individual. Only after a thorough assessment and discussion with the patient will I formulate a specific treatment plan. The techniques include hands on manual therapy and exercises.  A simple personalized home exercise programme is also given to help maintain and improve the results achieved in the clinic.

Sports Physiotherapy

This is a specialised branch of Physiotherapy which deals with injuries and issues related to athletes of all ages, involved with sports at all levels

Joint mobilization is a passive hands-on movement technique applied to stiff spinal or peripheral joints to restore full range of motion to the joint. It also has the effect of altering the neuromuscular (nerve) firing within muscles to cause a reflex relaxation of the surrounding tight musculature. Simply, it helps to restore normal pain free motion.

Home care exercise programmes are an integral part of treatment, an individualized home exercise programme is applied to reinforce the benefits made during treatment and to progress recovery. A rehabilitation programme is constructed and designed for your specific problems to do at home to facilitate recovery.

Sports Therapy and Deep Tissue Massage

Sports massage therapy is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of the soft tissues in the body i.e. muscles, ligaments and tendons. This method of treatment helps to prevent injuries and alleviate stress. It strengthens and mobilizes weak areas, reducing pain and normalizing tension. This will be beneficial to anyone suffering from physical, occupational, emotional and postural stress. Sports massage therapy can be used to:

  • Improve circulation and lymphatic flow
  • Prepare muscles for exercise
  • Assist in mental preparation for sporting activities
  • Assist in removal of waste products e.g. toxins and lactic acids
  • Encourage a natural form of healing
  • Remodel scar tissue when required
  • Speed up recovery after exercise

Postural and Biomechanical Assessment and Analysis

Sports screening identifies real or potential problems before they cause injury as well as enabling identification of areas for performance enhancement. This involves looking at your body movement in relation to your specific sport. Taking that knowledge and designing an individualized regime to meet your goals. This strategy is used for both injury prevention and performance optimization. It involves a biomechanical assessment, which will identify restrictions to specific movements, and a functional movement analysis tailored to your sport. I will look at your postural alignment, assess any muscle imbalance, poor flexibility, reduced core stability or compromised balance. The results of these two tests will allow me to create a specific exercise regime. It is important to remember that identifying potential problems early will limit the risk of injury later.

Sports Rehabilitation

Many injuries may appear to have recovered due to a reduction in pain and swelling to an acceptable level, allowing increased activity. Often, unfortunately, the joint or muscle/tendon structures have not regained their pre-injury status and re-injury occurs when training or sport resumes. Following a thorough assessment and understanding your particular activity requirements a specific personal exercise routine is designed allowing you a progressive rehabilitation of the injured structure thereby reducing potential re-injury.

Pilates is a form of exercise designed to elongate, strengthen and restore the body to optimum muscular and skeletal function. It promotes a strong core, improves the health, flexibility and mobility of the joints through improved mobility and support from surrounding musculature. It increases muscle tone and encourages a more balanced posture. It can benefit a wide range of people of all ages, levels and abilities.

As a progression of treatment for many conditions, especially the neck and back, Pilates based exercises is applied to facilitate injury prevention and therefore promote physical rehabilitation.

I teach Pilates in a class situation and do one to one classes.  My method of teaching focuses on the individual’s requirements and to work at a manageable level, either in a class situation or in one to one sessions.

Taping is as an essential part to treatment as it can supply instant results. Taping combined with an individualised exercise programme will make treatment more effective.
